Taylor Swift
When I hear the name 'Taylor Swift', my mind automatically thinks to her ever so repetitive song 'We are never ever getting back together'. I'm not an obsessive fan, yet I don't hate her with a passion either. I do think, however, her first album, named after herself (Really?!?) was terrible...The music bored me, and she sounds half asleep in my opinion. What I do believe, is that the more music and albums she creates, the better she gets. Following this, I think that her last album is her best, with the exception of 2 songs, 'I knew you were trouble' and 'Red' in which are both absolutely awful, and I prefer the parodies to the originals. Having said that, the 2 songs she created for the film 'The Hunger Games' were not her greatest work. The song 'Safe and Sound' is just about listenable, yet the song 'Eyes Open' sounds like she has just run a marathon and is struggling to get her breath back. The 3rd album released by her, 'Speak Now' is, as predicted, mainly all about love, and how (as always) heartbroken she is, with the exception of the song 'Mean'. My favorite song done by her, how predictable this may be, is 'You Belong With Me' because of the fact that the idea of it, is so unrealistic, that it's practically a Disney film. The guy has a girl, another girl dislikes her, and the end has a happy ending with the guy and girl. Predictable but still cute.
A lot of people have their artist name as an album title. It's quite common expecially with artists starting in the industry or coming back to the industry. Taylor did start producing her first EP (Beautiful Eyes) when she was around 14 and her first album did follow shortly, she had hardly even grown up when she started to make music, hence the lovey-dovey songs and the un-professional touch. In my opinion Eyes Open was an awesome song, Safe and Sound seemed to boring for me! And Speak Now is just my favourite Taylor album. 'Long Live' is my jam really, and 'Haunted' reminds me so much of City of Lost Souls to be honest! The songs Never Grow Up and Innocent were the exception of the songs about love on the album, the same with the song 'The Best Day' on Fearless, which I believe may be about her mother. Enchanted is probably my favourite song off Speak Now though, but I'm a soppy shit so it's acceptable! I think with her most recent albums, you can tell that she's matured since her first albums, however she's definitely kept her innocent vibe. As she says on her introduction on her record label, she's "in love with love."
ReplyDeleteI didn't know half of that! I do agree that as she grows older her music improves and she's written less songs about love, I've grown to like her more since I wrote this post, but I just find that she could write better songs if they weren't all about love.
