Frozen Review

Frozen - Disney's latest addition, with 2 new official princesses to make everyone even happier. However, this isn't just an average disney film. Normally, we'd expect a princess in trouble to lie down and wait to be rescued (Snow White, Sleeping Beauty etc..). Not this time. No spoilers for those who haven't seen it, but the overall plot involves 2 sisters - Elsa and Anna - one with magical winter powers. When Elsa accidentally sets off an eternal winter and then vanishes, Anna has to find her and convince her to set things right.

The quest isn't accomplished on her own though. Anna makes her way up a snowy mountain with a young man named Kristoff, a reindeer named Sven and an adorable talking snowman called Olaf (Who doesn't have a skull...or bones). What makes the characters even better is that they're actually realistic - instead of Anna waking up in the morning looking like she's just walked out of a beauty salon, she wakes up with bed hair which is so realistic that people forget she's a pixelated image.

It's not just the characters who are amazing though...Idina Menzel has stepped straight off from the broadway musical of 'Wicked' as Elphaba to record the voice of Elsa, after she has previously been in 'Enchanted' as the part of Nancy, another princess film done by Disney. Her amazing voice is ever clear in the oscar nominated song 'Let it go' where at the end, a magnificent and almost operatic note is blasted out.

This brings me onto the soundtrack. Not typical sugary sweet singing, but songs with true and deep meanings.

1 - For the first time in forever - Anna gets to see people after being on her own for 17 years, Elsa being terrified of her coronation because of her every strengthening powers.

2 - Love is an open door - Anna is overjoyed because she has found someone who she loves, and she never has to be alone again.

3 - Let it go - Elsa's relief at not needing to hide who she is anymore, she can be free.

4 - For the first time in forever (reprise) - Anna telling Elsa she doesn't have to worry about hiding her powers because she doesn't have to be alone - proving sisterly love.

The film has been proved so popular in fact, that it is now confirmed that Frozen is going to be having it's very own broadway show, probably including even more musical numbers! The film could be joining broadway as soon as 2015, and when it does it is sure to be a massive success with children and adults alike.

If I was to give one pointer towards the film, it would be that near the end, a 'Love is an open door' reprise isn't a bad idea to show Elsa and Anna's rekindled friendship and love at the end, because after the stone trolls have sung 'Fixer Upper' there are no more musical numbers.

Overall, the disney film that will never get old has certainly received a 5 star rating from me. Well done Disney, I take my hat off to you.
