A character you can relate to & a thought provoking book - Day 15 & 16 of the 30 day book challenge
Ok so the reason I have done 2 days today is because one of them I have subconsciously already done. The character I can relate to the most is Luna Lovegood from the Harry Potter series; I wrote a blogpost abut her recently explaining why I love her, and...how much I can relate to her. For this day just go back and read the post, the link is here: http://leylandemirel.blogspot.co.uk/
The next day is a thought provoking book. I ca cry easily at books, no problem. But if a book has the power to make me really stop and think for a while, this is a big deal. The last book that I can remember that has done this is 'Me before you' by Jojo Moyes. If you are an emotional person then I suggest that when reading this book, you have lots of tissues near you.
The plot involves a young girl in her 20s - 30s called Louisa. When the cafe she works in shuts down, she takes a complete career change and becomes a carer for a man of the same aged named Will who is a quadriplegic due to an accident he had. This means he can only move his hands to a small degree and can only control his head.
*SPOILERS*
The climax of the book is when Louisa finds out that Will is unhappy in this life and he wants to go to Switzerland to be put to sleep. Louisa also finds out that she was hired not so much to be a carer, but to cheer Will up as she is a breath of fresh air in the cold and empty house.
Ultimately, a complete unexpected turn of events mean that the pair fall for each other, but despite this, Will is still insistent that the trip to Switzerland will go ahead.
I won't reveal the ending or anymore details for spoilers, but the book made me think about my position in life. Me, and many other people, take small tasks for granted. This can be things as small as brushing our hair, or being able to feed ourselves. These are things we do daily without even thinking about it, but for people such as Will, with the same disabilities or not, this is a daily struggle; a lot of people would give anything to be able to do things for themselves again. The book made me realise just how lucky I am to be able to do the things I can.
Do you have a book you've read that has made you really think about yourself? Let me know in the comments!
